“Dear men. Stop using our stuff. Thanks”
10 Men’s Grooming Products
Grooming
Sometimes you just have to use women’s bathroom products. Say if you’ve run out of your own, or there’s a new, expensive looking one to try out on your scrotum… In an effort to even this up, Natasha McNamara picks ten male grooming products women like too.
I have a tube of Beauty Flash Balm that I have been slowly eeking out for the past few weeks which has suddenly started disappearing in, well, twice the time. Either I’m a beauty conscious somnambulist or ‘someone’ else is using it. I know it’s you husband. I can smell it on you. I would like to say I don’t mind. What’s mine is yours. But I do. It’s scientifically formulated* for my lady skin. In the last few years the male grooming industry has boomed in a big way and if you just take the time to do a little research you too can have your own shelf in the bathroom and it won’t be full of dusty old bottles of Brut boxsets from the early 90s.

01
Moisturiser
Here’s where you can give a little back, Aesop products are all unisex and focus on plant-based ingredients (in this instance white tea and rock rose). The parsley seed is suitable for most skin types (read mine and yours).
Aesop Parsley Seed Anti Oxidant Facial Hydrating Cream, £53
02
Shampoo
Yes, you can use the massive bottle of Pantene on a day to day basis, but for a hair treat, instead of using my Kerastase you can opt for popular holistic and environmentally forward-thinking brand Aveda. The Invati range is particularly good for hair that’s not quite as thick as it used to be…
Aveda Invati Shampoo, £26
03
Facemasks
Turmeric is the fashionable ingredient de jour for our insides, but it’s also very good for your outside too. This mask is an excellent exfoliator initially and then dries to a mask. Why take two bottles into the shower when you can take one? Exactly.
Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energising Radiance Mask, £34
04
Conditioner
You’re moments away from running your hands through thick hair guys! It’s all about the conditioner when it comes to silky hair and this Malin & Goetz will not only look on point on your bathroom shelf it’s a great conditioner and your hair will smell of coriander in a good way (not in a salady way).
Malin & Goetz Cilantro Conditioner, £20
05
Serum
This is one you are determined to rob from us isn’t it? It flutters it’s eyelids from our dressing table, coming on to you hard. “Come on sexy, she’ll never notice”. We will! We do! How about this equally attractive blue serum from Perricone MD? It peels, exfoliates, pumps and hydrates like Arnie when he was Mr Universe. Oh, and it’s blue. Things that aren’t usually blue are cool – like blue milk from Star Wars.
Perricone MD Blue Plasma, £63.70
06
Hairspray
Want to know why there’s never any hairspray? Because you keep using ours behind closed doors. Come out of the closet and invest in some manspray.
Redken Brews Mens Hairspray, £10.10
07
Facial Scrub
This is one product you guys use that simply breaks my heart. Surely our crushed pearls aren’t going to make much of an impact on your face? Well in fairness for the shavers out there you’re getting a razor sharp exfoliate every day so even more reason to moisturise, but there are plenty of great face scrubs to choose from. A household favourite (ahem) is Gloey. Wild herbs, peppermint and a cornucopia of crushed kernels make for a gentle but effective scrub with a refreshing finish.
Gloey Organics Purifying Exfoliator, £38
08
Bath Oil
I have my Aromatherapy Associates bath oils, you can have yours. The Support Breathe Bath Oil with eucalyptus and lavender will help you relax and clear your airways.
Aromatherapy Associates Support Breathe Bath Oil, £47
09
Bubble Bath
This one is easy. The Elemis aching muscle soak is the nectar of the bath gods. Perfect for post workout or just the aches and pains of pure existence. Smells amazing and clears the head wonderfully. Get enough bubbles on the go, grab a glass of Champagne and you can pretend you’re in Dynasty.
Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak, £38
10
Cleansing Face Wash
Well this is exciting. A foaming face wash that draws out impurities with charcoal, foams up to cleanse and leaves your skin feeling tingly and fresh.
Clinique for Men Charcoal Cleanser, £18.50
