FitMenCook

This new health app tackles the horrors of low fat ready meals packed with sugar, to salads that contain more fat than a Big Mac, and understands lean eating can be a tricky business. Enter fitness guru Kevin Curry. Having spent £200 on a personal trainer who put him on a bland ‘meal plan’, he decided he do better and up FitMenCook, an online community that is now a social media phenomenon. This app helps you ditch the ready meals with 400 struggle-free recipes designed to leave your tastebuds ringing like a doorbell. Yes, he looks like a bro. But his philosophy – you can’t ‘out-train’ a crap diet – makes sense.

Are you an exhausted dad? Arm yourself with this brilliant new sleep-inducing app by Mind Candy. A mix of storytelling and song, it comes with 22 melodic tales and a bunch of dream-like ‘soundscapes’ that lull your child into the land of nod. Karma

A third of all food – that’s a staggering 10 million tonnes a year – ends up in the bin. No wonder the sewers blocked with fatbergs. New app Karma helps Londoners tackle food waste by picking up high-quality surplus food from restaurants, cafes and grocery stores at a 50% discount. Hugely popular in its native Sweden, Karma recently launched in 50 London locations, ranging from Michelin-starred Aquavit to the (self-explanatory) Hummus Bros. Don’t live in London? Try Too Good To Go.

Aura: Mindfulness & Happiness

You’ve probably heard of Headspace, the undisputed king of mindful apps. It’s very good. But we suggest seeking out the pretender to Headspace’s crown: Aura. Voted the best new health app by Apple, it delivers short bursts of meditation that are personalised using artificial intelligence. Users tell the app how they feel after each session, and the app delivers improved sessions (calming music, breathing techniques, etc). Each Aura session lasts just three minutes, so lock yourself in a toilet at work and knock yourself out.
